Greg Evans, Ph.D., joined the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in 1998 as Health Scientist Administrator in the Sickle Cell Disease Scientific Research Group, a component of the Extramural Blood Diseases Program in the Institute's Division of Blood Diseases and Resources. In 2002, he was appointed Leader of the Division's Hemoglobinopathies and Genetics Scientific Research Group.
Dr. Evans oversees biomedical research grants relating to red blood cell diseases, gene transfer, and genomics. His research portfolio is focused on sickle cell diseases, but also includes thalassemia and gene therapy and genomics for heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders.
Dr. Evans received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles. He received an A.B. with honors in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Evans has authored or coauthored articles for peer-reviewed journals, written invited book chapters and reviews, and served as a reviewer for several journals. He is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the Americn Society of Gene Therapy.
