Diane Bild, M.D., M.P.H., joined the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in 1989. She is Acting Deputy Director of the Institute's Division of Prevention & Population Sciences.
Dr. Bild's research interests are in coronary heart disease, particularly imaging of coronary calcification using computed tomography; other forms of cardiovascular disease before symptoms begin; and cardiovascular risk factors. She is Project Officer for the Institute's Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), an observational study of asymptomatic cardiovascular disease in four ethnic groups. The study is expected to end in 2008.
Dr. Bild earned her M.D. at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1980 and an M.P.H. in epidemiology at the University of Michigan in 1984. Dr. Bild has published more than 50 peer reviewed articles on diabetes and subclinical cardiovascular disease. She belongs to the American College of Physicians and the American Heart Association.
